Today Lindsay and I along with another adopting mom Donna, took a van to our kiddo's orphanage in Kaifeng. It is about an hour away, all highway, so an easy trip. Since the babies are still adjusting to their new families, we left them with their Baba's. Some kids do well with the closure a final visit can bring, but I did not feel that Parker was quite at that point with his attachment and bonding. I still believe this was the best decision for our family. Meredith wanted to stay at the hotel with her new brother, too.
The orphanage experience turned out to be very positive. The ayis ( nannies ), all knew exactly who I was and I could tell that Jun Hai was so very loved and cared for. It was very special to be able to hug them and thank them for taking care of our son/brother, and to see where he spent the first year and a half of his life, touch the crib he slept in and see the incubator that kept him alive. The children that live in the Lily Care Orphan Center are very fortunate and it shows...they are happy and well cared for. We are blessed.
